Wooden Creations
I have been building with wood the longest out of all of my creative endeavors. A lot of projects from long ago are gone and all I have are memories. If you were to look at my home you would call it a Craftsman Home. Everywhere you look you find things that are hand crafted out of wood. My desk, the workbench, shelving, furniture, picture frames, and even some parts of the house. I build a deck in my garage attic to store all the junk that would have been in the garage otherwise. I can tell this will be a long page...
Lets start with a recent project, an end table. Rustic furniture is something we like. We take some weathered Cedar from an old fence and turn it into an end table. I also have what I call "Not an Armoire" which used to be an Armoire that deconstructed and used the wood to make an appropriately sized TV stand for the new flatscreen...
Then there is a lot of my craftsmanship outside as well. The garden boxes came first, then the greenhouse, and then the trellis. We have a Trumpet Vine that has a bad habit of crushing trellises. So, on the third trellis I decided to up the strength factor and make this one last a while. This trellis is attached to the greenhouse so the trumpet vine can grow over the greenhouse. The greenhouse and the trellis are constructed using fence post technology. The greenhouse has 5 posts, and the trellis has 4 posts. Then the rest of the support lumber is pressure treated 2x6s...
The top of the trellis is assembled using notches in the boards so they fit together flush. The two rails are screwed to the post with 6 inch lag screws. Then the cross beams are secured with 3 inch deck screws.
This garden area is an ongoing project. I modify things as needed depending on the season, and what I am growing. The Trumpet vine itself likes its spot and produces bizillions of orange trumpet flowers all summer. It attracts bees and other flying buggers that are good for the garden, they help pollinate my vegetable garden..
The green house took a few years to get to this state. At first it was meant to be used to over-winter plants. I had a heater, and we could store our tropical plants in there over the Winter. As time progressed the Tropical Plants dies off and I haven't replaced them. Instead I moved toward more perennial and evergreen plants that don't require special attention in the wintertime.
Here the garden is untouched after the Winter. Right before I started getting everything ready for the Spring.
